Music fundraising evening for Tam Paul’s 2023 Wellington Central Campaign

Come along to Meow to back the amazing Tamatha Paul (Ngāti Awa, Waikato Tainui) on her quest to become your new Wellington Central MP! With music provided by some of our finest entertainers and artists, Aja, Babetech, Mā and Mara TK, expect a very special evening of loved-up neo-soul, RnB, hip-hop, beats, bass club music and beyond.

AJA (Ngāti Raukawa, Te Atiawa ki Whakarongotai, Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Ngāti Porou)
Grounded and powerful musician, Aja, is spirited by the everlasting; the elemental; Kindred balance. Her voice and musical arrangements have the ability to talk intimately to a wide audience. With a sure and guided vocal tones she lures the listeners along a vast musical soundscape. Meet Aja, an assertive and trustworthy musical navigator.

Babetech (Te Aupōuri, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui)
Babetech embodies a fierce and energetic sound stemming from club and soundsystem culture. Drawing on a love for dubstep, bass, footwork and R&B, her sound displays the strength of her iwi, a connection to the whenua and hella attitude.

Mā (no Ngāti Potou, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Raukawa me Tūhoe)
The must-see music project of Maarire Brunning MĀ produces dreamy soul soundscapes with deep roots in trip-hop, 90’s R&B, groovy laidback rap and heartfelt pop vibes.

Mara Tk (Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Kahungunu, Tainui)
The son of Maori psychedelic rock legend Billy TK, Mara would first turn heads via his group Electric Wire Hustle. With an ethos that paralleled the likes of groups Sa-Ra Project and Spacek, they defined an era for those searching for something more probing in the purview of underground soul, beats and electronica. It was Mara’s brilliant songwriting and golden voice that often accentuated their impressive output. Stricken fans drawn in would include global tastemakers such as Benji B and Gilles Peterson (BBC), while Okayplayer would give their debut self-titled album a rare five stars. Such attention would spearhead the group to an international audience, establishing a cult following that continues to follow Mara’s work to this day.
