Over 9,500 strokes are experienced in Aotearoa each year – that’s one every 55 minutes – and we know that as many as 300,000 New Zealanders are directly affected by stroke. The mission of the Stroke Foundation of New Zealand is to prevent strokes, improve outcomes and save lives. For over 40 years, we have dedicated ourselves to this important mahi, and with your walk or run at the Christchurch Marathon, you can do the same!

Your support means our Community Stroke Advisors can continue to help thousands of stroke survivors and their whānau to get through one of the toughest times in their lives, and make sure they get the best possible outcomes through their recovery. We also know that over 75% of strokes are preventable as a result of simple lifestyle changes. The leading cause of stroke is high blood pressure, so every dollar raised helps us to provide free blood pressure checks to Kiwis and support public health policies that make the healthier choice the easier choice.

Now it’s your time to take action! Join our Stroke Champions team, start fundraising to get one of our awesome Stroke Champions t-shirts, and be part of our journey to fight stroke.
