Sew a Book Holder Cushion in this children’s beginner sewing workshop. Once you’ve made your cushion cover you will be ready to lay down and read away! You will learn step by step techniques and processes needed in sewing. We will do this in a very neat manner while learning easy tips and tricks to adding a cute patch pocket to hold their favourite story book.

We sew using our very safe hand crank machines. Children will learn how do sew French seams, so the bag ends up nice and tidy inside and out. This is just the beginning to sewing! If your child likes this session, then there are lots more opportunities for them to enjoy other sewing options.

In this workshop we will provide everything needed along with funky fabrics to choose from. An easy project for an absolute beginner to sewing. Your child will leave feeling inspired and proud after making their own unique Book Holder Cushion.

Gracie Mathews is the best tutor to teach your child, she oozes enthusiasm for everything textile. In addition to teaching and travelling New Zealand for a fabric supplier she has her own business offering a variety of costume and sewing services including hire, manufacture, costume and sewing experience packages and continues to share her personal costume and textile collection through symposiums, events and exhibitions.

Only 10 spaces in each workshop so book early to secure your child’s space.

Gracie teaches two of the following workshops each term break.

What parents of our participants have said:
Marina L. (January 2023)
My kids attended the Uxbridge Sew a Tote Bag Holiday Programme class – and they loved it! They came home very proud of their beautiful creations. Also, they instantly put their new sewing skills to good use by making back packs and tote bags for their soft toys. Hours of fun! Thanks so much, Gracie Matthews! I’m hoping to send the kids to more of your classes in future.

Brydie C. (January 2023)
My daughter loves these classes! It’s her holiday programme go to!
