Most dance music fans know Terre Thaemlitz as DJ Sprinkles, the artist responsible for some of the most powerful deep house ever made. But this represents just a fraction of her artistry. From ambient and jazz to electro-acoustic computer music, Thaemlitz paints with a broad brush, using music as a way to confront themes of politics, sexuality and identity. This work also bleeds into her roles as a writer, activist, public speaker the list goes on and on. Rather than take a linear documentary approach, the film shows Thaemlitz discussing her work with close friends and collaborators including translator and lawyer Izumi Yoshida, cyberfeminist Laurence Rassel and producer Mark Fell. The end result is a rare and illuminating window into Thaemlitz's creative and academic headspace.
