Immerse yourself in some of the greatest masterpieces of all time in the Perpetual Guardian Planetarium with a special one-off screening of Renoir: Revered and Reviled. Settle in for a morning enjoying the arts at Tūhura Otago Museum.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir is known and loved for his impressionist paintings of Paris. Renoir, however, grew tired of this style and changed direction. This revolutionary shift was not to everyone’s taste. The exhibition examines the artistic directions he took and why it provoked so many extreme reactions up until today. What may surprise people is that among the many artists who were influenced by Renoir’s new work stood two huge names: Picasso and Matisse. They were inspired by the experimental nature and the fruit of his creativity.

The film is a fresh new biography of this artistic giant, but more than that, it uncovers a rarely told story that places Renoir as a critical link between the old and the new.
