In New Zealand, Walter has worked as consultant and project manager for energy conservation projects. Previously in Germany, he was an environmental advisor to the German government. Together with a group of engineers and planners, Walter coauthored The German Institute of Architecture's Environmental Guidelines for Architects and Townplanners.
