Shuan (Xuan) Liu comes from Auckland, New Zealand and has just completed her first year of study at Hannover Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien studying under prof. Bernd Goetzke. Shuan started playing the piano at the age of six. While in New Zealand, she studied under prof. Rae de Lisle, prof. Bryan Sayer, prof. Stephen de Pledge, Dr. Jian Liu,and Prof. Yong Qu.
Shuan has received numerous awards and scholarships in New Zealand, for example: 2nd place in the New Zealand National Piano Competition, 1st place in the Pacific International Music Competition for Youths, the Margarat Doone Piano Sonata Scholarship, and the Norah Howell Piano Recital Award. In 2020 her chamber group "Trio Achilles" won the Helen Young Diamond Award in the New Zealand National Chamber Music Contest.
Shuan has also collaborated with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra and their Connecting branch, and was a young artist at the 2022 Whakatipu Music Festival. Recently, Shuan was invited to the Campus Cleve International Summer Festival where she gave recitals in Xanten, Arnhem, and Boxmeer.
In 2021, Shuan received a Chiron Senior Scholarship and a Haydn Staples Scholarship, which included chamber music performances with members of the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra. Shuan is grateful to have been a recipient of the Dame Malvina Arts Excellence Award and the AIMES Emerging Talent Award in 2022.
