Born in Jogjakarta, Indonesia, Dali Susanto was brought up surrounded by artists, both within and outside of his family circle. His family owned batik galleries and taught tourists and students the skills in batik work. Named after Salvador Dali with the dream he would follow along the same footsteps and become an artist.

This dream is a now a reality. After moving to New Zealand in 2007, Dali’s passion to paint took off.
Developing a distinctive style using a series of motifs and patterns in his bold graphic style with its energetic use of line and colour. Themes are often based on love, relationships and whanau.
His work may look very organised, but Dali thrives off spontaneity and paints what he feels. His work is magnificent and pleasing to the eye, and when looking at his art one can draw a different story from one painting every time you lay eyes on it. Dali exudes confidence and if you have had the pleasure of meeting him, you will understand how he is loved and supported by his community. Working with local councils to liven up the cities resulted in a Landmarks Award for his significant contribution.

Dali has been so successful in his artistic ventures that his work is displayed around the country. From Endemic World Gallery in Auckland to a mural in the children’s ward at the Palmerston North hospital, to recently a massive window piece at The Terrance entrance in Sylvia Park in Auckland. Dali finds pleasure in spreading love through his art no matter where or the medium.

Not only is Dali known in the art community, he has also worked with many festivals like Splore, Spirit Festival, Nest Fest, Earth Beat Festival and a heap of local events. He often can be seen on the streets in Hawkes Bay at markets and gatherings body painting not only children, but adults too. His artwork is appealing to all ages alike and his essence captures the attention of anyone he comes in contact with.
