The NZSM—Te Kōkī Orchestra with conductor Martin Risely will perform the works of two Jewish composers, both incredible child prodigies, who wrote incidental music to the works of William Shakespeare at an early age. They will open the concert however with the stunning overture of Ludvig van Beethoven, not on the Shakespeare play Coriolanus, but written for another play, in German, by Heinrich von Collin, which nonetheless would likely not have existed but for William Shakespeare's characterisation of the Roman general.
Beethoven Coriolan Overture op. 62
Korngold Much Ado About Nothing Suite op.11
Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream Incidental Music op.61
The concert will be held on May 30th at 7:30 at The Hunter Council Chamber, Level 2.
Pre-Registration is essential to attend.
