Make the most of Medieval Day at the Museum and try your hand at embroidery!

We have created some inspiration for you from the Bayeux Tapestry, the 70-metre long embroidery which tells the story of the conquest of England by William, Duke of Normandy in 1066. Five possible designs, ranging from easy to more difficult, can be traced and embroidered, or you can create something of your own that is whatever you would like it to be!

All materials to make your very own miniature work of art are provided. You will take home a tiny embroidery that you can use as an ornament, a keychain, or a brooch.

Bookings are essential as limited spots are available. This is a wonderful thing to do with friends, enjoy a chat while stitching something lovely.

And while you are here, enjoy the rest that our special Medieval Family Day has to offer, from sword fighting demonstrations to catapulting to jesters and much more! Or, before you start, your embroidery you can take your own inspiration from our free Bayeux Tapestry screenings in the Barclay Theatre at 10.30am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm.

Make the most of this fantastic family fun event at Tūhura Otago Museum!
