Otago’s Connections to Transatlantic Slavery

Each month, Toitū and the Centre for Global Migrations, University of Otago, invite different speakers to highlight the stories of Otago’s wide and varying migrant history. From early Māori-European encounters to modern refugees, and everyone in between, this series will barely break the surface on our region’s rich history of migration.

This July, for the first presentation in the series, we welcome Professor Angela McCarthy of the Centre for Global Migrations, and Professor Angela Wanhalla, Ngāi Te Ruahikihiki, Ngāi Tahu – specialist in New Zealand, Māori and Women’s history – both from the University of Otago, to speak about Otago’s connections to Transatlantic Slavery.

2pm, Friday 28 July
Toitū Auditorium
Free
