The most sustainable garment is the one you already own. Create your own style and derail consumerism.

Mending is a great way to care for, and treasure your clothing. At this fun and informative workshop you'll not only learn techniques to mend an item of clothing, but how you can create your own style using patches, darning, sashiko or ladder stitch.

If you have your own sewing kit (sewing scissors, needles, embroidery / cotton thread, tailors chalk) please bring it to the workshop. You are also welcome to bring your own sewing project along.
About the facilitator: Rebekah Harman, (School of Media Arts, Wintec). Her background is fashion and textile design, having worked on research and development projects within the wool industry, before working as a design tutor and lecturer at Wintec. Her Master's thesis examined ways to lower energy and chemical use in the colouration process of wool yarns. Her continued passion is examining ways to reduce the environmental footprint of the fashion industry.

About the host: Go Eco is the Waikato's largest environment hub and is based in Frankton, Kirikiriroa. The Fashion Industry is the world’s 3rd largest polluter, and responsible for 10% of greenhouse gas emissions. It is being fueled by Fast Fashion which is “a business model based on stealing high fashion designs to mass manufacture and sell them as low quality low price products with unimaginable costs to people and the planet”. WTVOX

Guided by our vision of healthy environments and thriving communities Go Eco are hosting a series of events to Derail Consumerism, and the impact of Fast Fashion.
