Join us for a Wetland Working Bee - "search and rescue" in Summer and "plant and play" from April/May. It's a great way to engage with nature for the whole whanau and help the environment as well!

In summer we look after the trees we planted earlier, discover how rewarding weeding can be, rescuing our little trees from smothering grasses!
When the soil gets a bit more wet, we start planting again: our native plant nursery is full of plants, grasses and trees that need a spot in our beautiful community wetland restoration project.

If you're new, we'll show you around Matuku Link, 37 hectares of bush and wetland, on our new loop path which in part is accessible with wheelchairs, buggies and walkers. Experience and admire: listen to the matata (fernbird), try to spot a pateke (brown teal), the eels, a weta or our elusive namesake matuku (bittern). This walk starts at our Wetland Education Centre and volunteer base at 111 Bethells Road.

Please fill in the form via the link https://matukulink.org.nz/summer/ if it's your first time, or contact us if you've got any questions: Annalily on hello@matukulink.org.nz or 021-2207136.

We finish with a shared lunch: bring something if you can, we provide hot and cold drinks and homemade soups when it’s cold, salads when it’s warm. No need to bring any tools, but do bring your own water bottle, wear sturdy (and super clean - remember kauri dieback!) shoes. It’s easily accessible, family-friendly, parking on site. Entry is opposite the Waitakere Fire Station.

If it’s nice weather, don’t forget that the most beautiful black sand beach is just down the road!

Hope to see you there,
Annalily & the trustees John Sumich, John Staniland, Dale Bainbridge and Chad Wilkie
