Gather around the seven fires as a storyteller shares tales of old. Write a message of remembrance, reflection and gratitude on a lantern. One free lantern per family. These are biodegradable and reusable. Join the waka maimai aroha (lantern) procession and then gather around the 50 metre long fountain called Manga Pacific - Te Toka Tu Moana and then on the sound of the putātara (conch shell) blowing, place your waka lantern into the waters. There's kai to warm the belly and entertainment to sooth the soul.

Hastings travellers can expect rush hour traffic delays for up to an hour between 4.30pm to 6.30pm so plan your visit. Lots of public parking and no road closures on Marine Parade.

The event is managed by Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Inc with support from Napier City Council, Mana Ahuriri, Te Taiwhenua o Te Whanganui a Orotu, Hawke's Bay Regional Council, Red Cross and Te Puni Kōkiri.
