Looking for Alaska is a folk-pop duo from Hamilton. Drawing from a diverse range of country, soul, folk and Māori influences, Aaron Gott and Amy Maynard perform hard hitting original music, their songs inspired by their life and travels; complete with exquisite harmonies and acoustic guitar that both whispers and roars.
The duos’ familiarity, closeness and authenticity is fuelled by their real-life romance, creating a magnetic performance style that captivates their audience time and time again.
Aaron Gott and Amy Maynard have been 8 years as music tutors in schools around Hamilton, and are co-owners of The Porch recording studio in Hamilton. Amy Maynard is a singer, songwriter & multi-instrumentalist based in Hamilton, NZ. Amy and Aaron have been full-time professional musicians for the last 10 years, mainly working together in their indie-folk band Looking For Alaska. Aaron Gott is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music producer and tutor based in Hamilton, New Zealand.
Aaron and Amy have released 2 albums, the first of which spent 5 weeks in the NZ album charts & was nominated for Best Debut Album at the Taite awards. They have also toured extensively, completing 3 headline tours of NZ, as well as tours of Australia & Europe, both international tours completed independently & completely self-funded. They have appeared at many notable festivals both here & overseas, including Auckland Folk Fest, Canterbury Folk Fest, Whare Flat folk fest, Hamilton Gardens Arts Fest & many more. They have opened for many notable musical acts, including Fly My Pretties, Herbs, L.A.B., French For Rabbits, Tiny Ruins, etc. In 2021, Amy also entered Maori TVs 5 minutes of Fame singing competition and won the group & solo female sections & has built a solid online following for her musical videos on Tik Tok where she has 33k followers.
