Limn Gallery 'Freestyle' - Skate Deck Show - 50+ NZ Artists

Join us for the opening of 'Freestyle'. Our first mammoth show of the year which will feature over 50 talented artists from around New Zealand. Freestyle will exhibit a blend of original unique artwork on skateboard decks, sculptures, and a series of photographs by award winning drone photographer, Petra Leary.

Kicking off at 7pm on Friday the 14th of April and running until the 30th of April 2023, This unique and dynamic showcase of creativity is a celebration of the intersection of skateboarding and art, two distinct forms of self-expression that have long been intertwined. Freestyle aims to highlight the unique ways in which artists have interpreted the relationship between these two forms of expression, all on display at Limn Gallery, 119 Ponsonby, Ponsonby Road, Auckland.⁠

About the Show:
The practice of creating graphics for skateboards began in the late 1960s and early 1970s, when skateboarding was becoming a popular pastime among young people in California. Since then, skateboard graphics have evolved into a unique and vibrant art form, with many skateboard decks featuring intricate designs, illustrations, and typography.

Each skatedeck in the show is a canvas for the artist to express their own unique style, techniques and perspectives, resulting in a diverse and eclectic collection of pieces. From vibrant colours to intricate designs, from street art to abstract expressionism, Freestyle will inspire and engage audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you're a seasoned skateboarder or simply appreciate the beauty of art, this exhibition promises to be a visual feast that will leave you inspired.
