In this technology filled world we live in; most leather products are mass produced and lack uniqueness. We often buy these products not knowing where the design’s originated and how they are made. Nothing compares to the satisfaction of creating something with your own hands.

During our leather craft workshop, you will be encouraged to create your own bespoke items from leather. The leather craft workshop is designed to be a thoroughly immersive experience and a unique opportunity to hand make your own leather item. The different leather projects to choose from include a Knife sheath/multitool case, Wallet, dog collar or a set of coasters.

Our leather craft workshop covers patternmaking through to completing your own leather project. Fern Reid, our leather artisan will share her knowledge about leather and the crafting process – the different types and quality, leather care, types of tools. Participants are then guided through all the practical steps to apply the core skills of leather making creating their own unique leather project. This experience will have you walking away with your finished leather project feeling very satisfied with your achievements. This leather workshop is suitable for people with no prior experience.

What to Bring?
All tools, leather and equipment are provided in the fee to make whichever leather project you choose from above.
Participants can make a simple larger item after reviewing with Fern but there will be an extra cost for leather.
Participants should bring a craft knife/Stanley knife, pencil, pen and note pad or paper. If you wish to make a sheath or multitool case, you will need to bring the knife or tool along.

For health and safety, you must wear covered shoes and have hair tied back.

What students say about Fern’s Leather Craft workshop:
Doug N. (August 2022)
Absolutely and thoroughly enjoyed the Leather Craft Class at the Uxbridge Art & Culture Centre. Fern the instructor/ teacher was totally amazing, her infectious laugh, passion and skill for leather work made the class fun and exciting for not only myself but the other participants. After a full day of fun and at times frivolity each an everyone in the class achieved their desired goals with their creations. Many thanks once again to Fern and the impressive Uxbridge Art & Culture Centre.

Teresa H. (August 2022)
Leather making workshop was amazing. Fern is very patient and knowledgeable. The class was a nice small size which was relaxing. We were guided through every step of the process when making a leather piece from cutting, stamping, applying dye to stitching, burnishing and waxing. I’d highly recommend this class!
