Joana Joy: Vibeologist. Socially Conscious Comedian: Standing Still.
Standing Still is a brand-new stand up comedy show by seasoned comic, ex-professional dancer dancer and cabaret dynamo Joana Joy (Banana Jolie). Wellington based, this comic has featured on lineups alongside Ben Hurley, Joe Daymond, Cori Gonzalez, Tim Batt, Sameena Zehra, Samantha Hannah, to name a few. Having sold out its debut season up north, Standing Still is hitting the Cavern Club. For two nights only.
Her shows (Confessions of an Aerobics Instructor, Spiritual Banana, which have sold out theatres and earned rave reviews across the antipodies) are usually very high energy, physical and busy.
In a desperate move to 'do less' and 'be more', JJ has created a stand up comedy show where she will stand (mostly) still.
Except at 3 random times, decided by the audience. At these points she will absolutely throw down. Stand up comedy with dance. Maybe a muay thai demonstration.
As a socially conscious comedian, JJ examines and shines light on the human experience, rather than knocking it down. Having done stand up and MC'd professional line up shows in Wellington, Whanganui, Foxton Beach, Adelaide, Auckland and Melbourne, audiences can expect to chortle and warm to her effervescent energy and witty content. Having recently graduated with a psychology and philosophy degree, her material ranges from bits about being a mature age student, the history of dust, idioms rewritten, how to not smoke and have clean habits, meditation, tidying up, therapy and sibling dynamics.
