What Is Impressionist Watercolour? The goal of impressionism is to capture the moment in front of the artist, using natural light as a guide. For many impressionist artists, although they were influenced by the natural world around them, they wanted to contrast this in an almost imaginary, other-worldly way.

Impressionism is one of the most famous and successful art movement of all time. It evolved as a reaction to the rigid constraints of academic art. Impressionism typically focuses on landscapes and the impression of light on the scene.

In this workshop we’ll use landscape subjects to paint loose, impressionistic watercolours. Elise will guide you on how to relax your brush and enjoy colorful rich washes that express mood and emotion. She will show you how to incorporate these techniques into your own watercolour work.

Who is this workshop suitable for?
The Impressionist Watercolours workshop is for beginners and intermediate levels. We will cover the basics but some basic watercolour knowledge would help.

What you will learn from this workshop:
– How to “loosen” up your strokes if you usually paint “tight” and intricate
-The joy of “happy accidents”
-How to maximise watercolour unique properties

You will take home:
An impressionist watercolour painting made by you!

Things you need to bring:
Watercolour paints. A mix of colours, whatever you have should be fine, but at least a red, cobalt blue, French ultramarine blue, a cool yellow and a warm yellow, Payne’s grey or neutral tint and white.
Watercolour paper 300gsm cold pressed.
Watercolour brushes in a range of sizes from small to large.
Masking tape or art tape
2B pencil and eraser
Sketchbook
Tissues and a small old rag
