Do you like television cooking programmes?
What about stand-up comedy?
Either way, you’re in for a treat.
Award-winning Canadian comedian Laura Bruce is bringing her solo show to Dunedin!
Laura takes an irreverent poke at Kiwi culture in How to Cook a Kiwi: Laura Bruce’s N to Z of Aotearoa. Proposing, among other things, to roast our national icon, Bruce’s show will be at the New Athenaeum Theatre on Friday, June 23rd.
Describing herself as “a decent cook but a better comedian", Laura is now a resident of Wellington and a familiar face on the national comedy scene.
She’ll share her observations, insights and frustrations as an immigrant to Aotearoa — together with some outrageous cooking tips. In “How to Cook a Kiwi”, ‘stand-up comedy’ collides with ‘television cooking programme’.
Middle-aged and a late starter in comedy, Bruce was voted “Newcomer of the Year - South Island” by the New Zealand Comedy Guild in 2020. She is a 2021 Wellington ‘Raw Comedy Quest’ finalist, and Wellington Comedy Awards’ “Joke of the Year” nominee for the past two consecutive years.
“Her material is smart, funny, engaging, and always impeccably crafted.” -- Neil Thornton, NZ Comedy School.
A Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) and keynote speaker, Bruce is also the 2020 Toastmasters New Zealand District 72 Humorous Speech Champion.
