From the inner ear to the brain - new insights into hearing and balance

We’d love for you to join us at our free event in Hamilton.

Good balance is something most of us take for granted. But what about those of us with neurological conditions that impact our balance? What part is played by hearing, and what can be done to manage people's symptoms?

Until now, there's been limited research on how the balance system is affected by different neurological diseases. A new study will help researchers gain deeper understanding, and will be used to develop more effective treatments for rehabilitation and management. Zay Melville is both a researcher and a clinician, which gives her special access to the worlds of science and medicine. Join her as she shares her fascinating insights.

Zay is a research and clinical audiologist with an interest in vestibular (balance) audiology, genetic disorders and epidemiology. She has received the Neurological Foundation O’Brien Clinical Fellowship, researching auditory and vestibular involvement in inherited peripheral neuropathies at the Neurogenetics Research Clinic based at The University of Auckland. Zay holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Audiology from The University of Auckland, and works as an MNZAS audiologist at Triton Hearing in Hamilton.
