Don Milne's Choice
An Appalachian musical trail.

Don writes "I’m pleased to have been invited to arrange a program featuring local musicians and thought it would be fun to explore some of the influences that make up the music that I play, the music of the Appalachian Mountains .

This has been grown from many influences over the last 300 years or so as settlers from many parts of the ‘ Old World ‘ settled the new, bringing their diverse musical influences with them.

House dances were a very common, in some communities two or three times a week. The fiddle being so portable was the main instrument, as it still is today. These days while we still play the old tunes it is refreshing to note that many wonderful new tunes are being written in the “Old Time” style.

The program will include some tunes from Ireland and Scotland, some Cajun fiddle, Mandolin Rags, Bluegrass even. I may be able to squeeze some banjo into the mix, on some instruments of my own making. Songs may be sung..

Thanks in advance to those who have joined this wee project, I hope you will enjoy the night’s entertainment."

Cash bar tonight. Eftpos available.
