Dodd & Egenes: Professional Musicians
John Dodd and John Egenes are two of the most sought-after artists on the planet. And as they work to put their troubles with the law aside, they are equally renowned for their place in the New Zealand music world. When they decided to combine their prodigious talents into a duo, Dodd was overheard to exclaim, “There’s no stopping us now!”

John Dodd got his start in music playing pump organ for the improvisational choir in the hippie commune, “The Groovy Llama” located in the Coromandel, performing in what was referred to as “Spiritual Communal Bathing” rituals. Not much is known about these events, and Dodd remains tight-lipped about it all. Needless to say, he continued to advance his musical career, and by using “Free Love” as his mantra (and professional stepping stone) he eventually became what many describe as “…the best danged bass player west of the Antipodes”.

John Egenes began playing the piano accordion at age four, memorising countless oom-pah polkas and schottisches, eventually discovering Johnny Cash and stepping up to big pay by playing the musical saw. While still living in America, Egenes was allowed to perform at weekend gigs as a participant in the New Mexico State Penitentiary Work Release Program. He was eventually granted a full pardon after teaching the warden to play “Cracklin’ Rosie” on the mandolin.

Don’t miss these two, whom many consider to be the very best in the world at what they do. And once we figure out exactly what that is, we’ll let you know.
