David Parker

West Auckland woodworker and audio engineer David Parker has combined two of his passions to create four unique electric guitars that he is selling to fundraise for Help Auckland.

The four guitars are original designs, drawn from scratch but most closely inspired by the shape of a Fender Jazzmaster/Jaguar. All four have different finishes, including one handpainted with New Zealand flora and fauna by his sister, artist Esther Tooth.

The guitars will be available for sale on Trademe from the 22nd of April and guitar lovers can come and check out the guitars at a special pop up on Saturday 22 April from 10am-2pm at 14 Gundry Street, Newton.

Internet famous for his meticulous craftmanship of wooden boats, musical instruments, kitchen tools and even a wooden bike his Youtube Channel (youtube.com/Davidparker) has over 28,000 subscribers and 10 million views. David first got into woodwork building guitars for himself and friends and in more recent times has taken on repairing existing guitars for a who’s who of New Zealand music including The Beths, Fazerdaze, Clap Clap Riot, Earth Tongue and countless others. He recently completed an urgent job putting American musician Kurt Vile’s acoustic guitar back into order in time for his New Zealand tour after it was seriously damaged during a flight.

David says he was inspired to raise money for the sexual harm support charity after being shocked by the many stories coming out about abuse in the music industry over the past few years.

“Feeling a bit helpless about all of this I decided to try and raise some money for Help Auckland to continue the work they’re doing alongside Soundcheck Aotearoa, running professional respect training workshops for people working in the industry and providing support for survivors of sexual assault and violence.

“It’s taken more than a year to build them, but they’re finally done and they turned out to be really great guitars. Now they’re ready for people to buy!”

David has committed that at least 50% of all proceeds will go to Help Auckland, with the rest covering the cost of materials and time. He’s aiming for a minimum $2500 for each guitar, with at least $5000 to go to Help Auckland.
