We invite you to a table-read of Gaylene Barnes' screenplay Being With Cows. Gaylene is a Christchurch filmmaker who has agreed to open up her feature film script for a small public group. Come prepared to read a character, or just listen in. The reading will be accompanied by music and images from Gaylene's research.
Being With Cows is a fictional film about the last three months of Katherine Mansfield’s life in a commune in the forest of Fontainebleau, France with Armenian mystic George Gurdjieff. Extensively researched, Barnes has amassed a screenplay rich in details about the final days of Mansfields life and the esoteric movement that captured her heart.
All are invited to a cup of tea and discussion afterwards.

"Being With Cows is an emotionally-charged period drama that leaves audiences with thought-provoking lessons about what it means to have a life well lived. The script explores relatable themes including acceptance, death, self-discovery, and reconciliation." The Black List
"One element that is absolutely gorgeous and important to the story is the script’s attention to detail in setting the scene once at Gurdjieff’s retreat ... it will all look stunning on screen and stand out from other period stories." Screencraft
