Novi Grad All Stars is the first recorded release from Bazurka, and a long awaited one at that. It’s the culmination of several years’ worth of creative output, since their founding in 2015. Those years of preparation were crucial in helping to develop Bazurka’s original creative voice, and go from being merely an imitator of the rich musical traditions stemming from and around the Balkans, to a uniquely kiwi spin on Eastern European folk music. The result is an aural smorgasbord of raucous jigs, sultry tear-jerking ballads, and spicy dance floor starters.

“Since forming in 2015 they’ve wowed audiences all over the country, including Auckland Garden Festival, Newtown Festival, and Cuba Dupa. Forged in the fires of the cultural melting pot that is Newtown, and tempered by passion, heartache, and a dash of madness, their music is bold, brooding, and beautiful. They’ll make you laugh, they’ll make you cry, they’ll make you dance like your life depended on it.”

Bazurka will be joined by Mehana, a six piece powerhouse ensemble, influenced by tunes from communities of former Yugoslavia and cool Roma music styles, and featuring some of the best former Yugoslavian expat musicians this city has to offer, their music will light a fire in your soul, and under your feet.
