Maia Dreams is privileged to announce another wonderful collaboration with the upcoming Aumangea Project in Term 2 to be held on 27 June 2023, Tuesday at Toitoi Hawkes Bay Arts and Events Centre. This project is a joint venture with the Ministry of Education Creative Practitioners in Schools, Toitoi Hawkes Bay Arts and Events Centre, Inspire in Education, Prevue, Dream big and Akina Art Gallery to raise awareness on the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle.

The Aumangea Project is an initiative to empower, support, and inspire our youth to be courageous, bold, and resilient. It is taught through the Confident Me program (Maia Dreams) which equips our tamariki with tools and resources to help them overcome challenges so they can thrive in their personal and academic lives. It is also our goal to contribute to the sustainable and continued development of our tamariki and rangatahi in our region. The themes of the Artwork being created and the 60 minute show is around Bravery, Confidence, Identity & Recovery post Cyclone Gabriel.

As we all move forward from the devastating event where many lost their homes, maraes, schools, and other sources of income, we are also left to struggle with parental stress, school disruption, and increased concerns about climate change. This gave way to The Aumangea Project meaning Bravery which will shine a light on how our young people bravely face the challenges and regain their confidence during the aftermath of destruction.

By exploring these themes through art and performance, tamariki and rangatahi can learn to confront their fears and develop the strength they need to overcome adversity.
