MATA <>+<> ARIKI at Pukepuke is a community art project led by artists Feeonaa Clifton and Ani O’Neill of Ariki Stars to celebrate Matariki 2023.

Traditionally, the rising of the Matariki cluster is a time for Māori to acknowledge those close to them who have passed away, a time to gather and enjoy the harvest of today, and a time to make plans for the future.

In the weeks leading up to this year’s Matariki Holiday, on 14 July 2023, nine large stars will be created for MATA <>+<> ARIKI at Pukepuke through a collaborative process of shared making across the wider Manurewa community.

This project hopes to encourage all generations to learn more about Matariki and each of the star’s stories. Together we bind our collective aspirations through small moments of soulful and joyful play.

See the whetū take shape over the weeks and learn how to make a small star with your whānau and friends, then gift it to someone special in one of our dop in sessions here at Nathan Homestead Pukepuke through May and June.

NHP Sessions:
During the month of May & June come join us Tuesdays and Saturdays.
