Dame Fiona is a multi talented and prolific New Zealand author of eleven novels, hundreds of short stories, poems, plays, scripts and memoir. Come and hear Ms Kidman discuss her literary life with Juliet Robieson.
Dame Fiona writes with deep understanding, kindness and compassion about the really tough moments in women’s lives. Despite criticism for this she has refused to shy away from ‘difficult’ subjects.
Over 45 years of documenting our lives, mainly from a woman’s point of view, Dame Fiona has collected countless prizes, awards and fellowships.
Her first novel ‘A Breed of Woman’ was published in 1979 and promptly banned from libraries and school. This greatly increased sales and her writing career took off.
New Zealand society relaxed over time and when the moralising about content stopped New Zealand noticed.
The Friends of Mahurangi East Library, Winter Words team are thrilled to present a world class writer in Fiona Kidman.
