Japanese calligraphy: the fine art of writing as it has been practiced and highly esteemed in Japan throughout the ages.
As the opening event for ‘Yokai Parade: Supernatural Monsters from Japan’ exhibition, Rie Shibasaki, an Auckland based Japanese calligrapher, will perform live at Central City Library.
At this event, Rie’s calligraphy will turned into a vibrant art of strong and dynamic strokes. Collaborating with Kumo Taiko group, relishing in the improvised rich and strong sound of taiko (Japanese Traditional Drum) over the performance, the strokes of KANJI characters will be brought to life on the paper screen.
The performance will take place at the event space on the ground floor. Pop in the library during lunch time to see this unmatched performance. Central City Library is proud to host this performance as the opening event of the exhibition.
‘Yokai Parade: Supernatural Monsters from Japan’ exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Consulate-General of Japan in Auckland and the Japan Foundation from 29 September to 06 November 2022, free admission.
