The Green Lab

You’re a writer; you have a pen, a pencil, a pad, a fancier pad, a laptop and twenty ideas you want to work on. We’re a cute community focussed co-working space; we have fast wifi, a printer, desks, couches, a friendly facilitator (who happens to be an international award-winning poet), and about 300 plants. Sounds like a match?!

Why not come and join our Wednesday Writers - 1pm-4:30pm every Wednesday at understorey - The Welder, 20-26 Welles St. We’ll provide a bit of community accountability and options for sharing what you’re working on and connect with other writers. A dedicated space to write, weekly! Upon arrival we will hold a little optional whakawhānaungatanga and the chance to set/ state your work intentions with an optional offering of a short writing prompt (no expectations!).
Stay for the whole session or head off when you feel ready.]

understorey is run by The Green Lab - we are a non-profit organisation. We invite you to koha/contribute for our facilitators time and your use of the space if you can. Enjoy our complimentary tea and coffee or there is excellent coffee & food available at other vendors in The Welder (before 2:30pm) which you’re welcome to bring in. There is some free parking on the street, although hard to get. Near by paid parking options a plenty. We don't recommend parking at Smith City (you'll get a ticket). We are two blocks from the bus exchange. Bus stops near by on Colombo and Manchester St also.
Bike parking on site.

Accessibility notes - understorey is in The Welder. The space has a ramp access, and a mobility park on site. There are gender-neutral wharepaku on site. We generally play quiet music in the space.
