Class Name: Ways of Seeing: Large Scale Process
Tutor: Robèrt Franken

Class Size: 8 (max number of students)

Born in the Hague, The Netherlands, Robèrt is a sixth-generation artist. Robèrt’s prolific art practice spans a depth and breadth in both approaches and materials. “To me, the process of painting is a journey and the actual painting, when finished, holds the key to the next one.” Robèrt has exhibited extensively both in New Zealand and internationally, and is currently the resident artist at the Learning Connexion.

Class Description
In this four-day workshop, Robèrt will encourage you to be open to possibilities and to work on a large scale. You’ll learn practical methods to see in new ways; work with negative space, textures and patterns, movement, and shapes. References will be drawn from the human form through life-model sessions, and organic forms from the TLC bushland. You will find new qualities in pastels, inks and charcoal through making large format works on builders paper.

What materials will be needed?
Bring charcoal, pastels, brushes in a range of sizes and indian ink.
Wear comfortable clothes
Bring a packed lunch
