Who was the man married to New Zealand's greatest suffragist?

Explore Walter Sheppard's life as a storekeeper, civic-leader, suffragent and husband.

The exhibition tells Walter's story through historical and archaeological evidence and showcases artefacts from his 1865-1875 shop, Sheppard and Co., from alcohol bottles and clay tobacco pipes to pickle jars, glass tumblers and ceramic transfer wares.

The exhibition is a collaboration between Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga, Underground Overground Archaeology and the Christchurch Archaeology Project.

The exhibition runs from 4 May to 7 Aug 2022
