Begin your day via helicopter, exploring the Kaimanawa Forest Park from above on the Waipakihi River Heli Hike.

This is a true backcountry experience where you will be transported up and then guided down the stunning Waipakihi River Valley. Discover more about the local mountain ranges and river systems, and learn from knowledgeable DOC staff and Sika Foundation volunteers about the area's unique biodiversity values. Get your feet wet along long stretches of stoney river bed, and be prepared for an abundance of serenity, natural beauty and postcard-worthy photo opportunities in the authentic kiwi outdoors.

Please note: There are multiple river crossings, and possible fallen trees to negotiate. Intermediate level of fitness required.

Trip Length: 6-8 hours
Minimum Age: 12 years old
Maximum Participants: 20 (5 per load). Minimum number for trip to go ahead is also 20.
Meeting Place: Waipakihi River, 40km south of Turangi, off SH1
Transport: Independent + Helicopter
Cost: $146.10. Last day to register 8 January 2022

Trip will only go ahead under Covid Level 1 or 2. May be cancelled due to weather or conditions. Final call to be made 24 hours in advance.
Need minimum number of participants for trip to go ahead.
Postponement date will be Wednesday 12th January 2022

Participants are asked to bring the following:
- Warm clothing
- Waterproof and windproof clothing
- Sturdy tramping boots
- Sunglasses/sunscreen/hat
- Gloves and warm hat
- Lunch, snacks, and drink
- Personal first aid kit
- Personal medication
- Swimwear

Please note: The trip leader has the right to refuse anyone who is insufficiently equipped.
