Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.

Classes are 7 - 8pm over three Wednesday evenings starting 1 June 2022.

Learn about the fascinating history of food production in Auckland and how that relates to feeding Auckland now, commercially and domestically. From pre-European gardens to food trucks and lockdown baking, how does what Aucklanders ate and eat illuminate our history? Come and learn about the fascinating history of growing food, both commercially and in home gardens in Auckland. We will look at processing food, distributing and retailing food, immigrant communities’ contribution to feeding Auckland and food as a leisure activity and food insecurity.

André is a researcher and writer who left behind the world of food journalism (freelance reporting, feature writing and restaurant reviewing for several outlets, two books on New Zealand food) to specialise in food history.

Our mission is to provide quality affordable and accessible lifelong learning opportunities for our community.
