Deb is a teacher, artist and curator. In 2019 she was awarded an arts fellowship by Ishibashi Foundation and Japan Foundation to extend her cultural knowledge of indigo dyeing practices in Japanese studios and galleries. Since 2008, as artist-researcher and the New Zealand representative member of World Shibori network, Deb has experienced several artist residencies in Asia, Shanghai, Dali, Studio Kura, Itoshima and Tomihisa Studio in Fukuoka in Japan.
Class Description
Learn the Asian organic indigo dyeing craft, reimagined in 2022 as a sustainable creative practice. Find your own creative voice through shibori resist methods or sashiko stitch to build your textile and fibre art collection.
Note - Suitable for all levels. Minimum age is 13, though if under 16 you will need to be accompanied by a supervising caregiver or parent.
What materials will be needed?
Materials will be supplied on day 1 for beginners and more materials can be purchased on day 2 to extend your practice and experience.
Bring old comfortable clothes and shoes to wear.
Bring a packed lunch.
