It’s world wetlands day! Join Te Papa Botany Curator Dr Carlos Lehnebach for a special talk unpacking the hidden world of wetland orchids.

In the last 100 years, New Zealand has lost more than 90% of its original wetlands. This means the home of many animals and plants has been modified, drastically reduced, or completely wiped out. Without our help, the risk of extinction of those species with unique habitat needs and specialised interactions is high.

In this talk, Dr Lehnebach will introduce you to the hidden world of wetland orchids. His talk will showcase some of New Zealand’s rarest orchids and describe current research at Te Papa and collaborating institutions helping to save them from extinction.

This event will proceed if Wellington is at the Green, Orange or red setting under the Covid-19 Protection Framework. A vaccine pass is required for entry to Te Papa. Please check Te Papa’s requirements for entry under this framework on the website.

Please note : This event is free but registrations are necessary. Register by emailing public.pogrammes@tepapa.govt.nz
