Syde Chicks

Will Kao and Monet Schutte are two up-and-coming soul musicians that have recently starting performing as the Syde Chicks duo. Both hailing from jazz backgrounds, Syde Chicks bring a modern takes on classic standards, infusing jazz with r&b soundscapes and modern pop language.

Will Kao started playing keys eleven years ago and has been titled as best jazz improviser in the 2021 NZSM youth jazz improvisation competition, as well as other competitions around New Zealand including Southern Jam and Jazz Quest.

Monet Schutte has been singing since she was four years of age and has been awarded best vocalist at Jazz Quest 2021, and was been invited to perform internationally in Vienna in 2019, after winning a songwriting competition.

Both are multi-instrumentalists, Will Kao switching between piano, trombone and trumpet and Monet playing saxophone and vocals. Both have been selected as a part of the Christchurch Youth Jazz Orchestra conducted by Lana Law.
