Ahuriri Contemporary is pleased to be partnering with Gow Langsford Gallery to present a Summer Exhibition to run from the 11th of January to the 28th of February 2022.
The exhibition brings together a collection of works from the Gow Langsford Gallery stable. It encompasses a diverse range of exhibition practices, with works by leading artists from Aotearoa and abroad, including Max Gimblett, Allen Maddox, Reuben Paterson, Chris Heaphy, Paul Dibble and Dale Frank. Featuring works from the late 20th century through to contemporary, the exhibition features a broad range of artistic applications and sensibilities.
Having weathered more changes than most, Auckland’s Gow Langsford Gallery will be celebrating it’s 35th year in the art dealing business this year. Throughout that time John Gow and Gary Langsford have supported ad represented a constantly changing and ever-impressive roster of New Zealand’s finest contemporary artists alongside selected internationals - at present Australia’s Dale Franks and Germany’s Katharina Grosse are amongst that number.
Included in the Summer Exhibition are some of this country’s leading names representing a wide range of artistic practices. From the wry humour of David McCracken’s pop sci-fi steel sculpture ‘Blue Danube’ (2016) to Michael Hight’s intensely enigmatic oil painting ‘Awatere Valley’ (2015); from the sublime glitter-on-canvas kitsch of Reuben Paterson’s ‘We Keep What Belongs To Us’ (2021) to the eerie postmodern surrealism of Graham Fletcher’s untitled interiors. The variety in the show covers some of the most vital currents in contemporary practice as well as some of its most important influences; Allen Maddox’s stunning expressionist gestures in oils from the mid-1990’s; the richly-hued atmospherics of Dale Frank’s large-scale abstractions on Perspex.
