Songbirds of the South brings together two of the South's finest voices and two top-shelf Jazz blues ambassadors for a special Mothers Day Celebration concert at Nelson's Fairfield House.

Songbirds of the South features Scottish born folk blues jazz singer-songwriter & producer Isabella (Izzy) Miller Bell Aka Ma Bell with special guests Debra Lee, accompanied by the fabulously talented John Bevin on piano and Mike Kime on upright bass.

Ma Bell's shade is vintage blue, a singer and songwriter who is at home in any shade of blue from classic Jazz blues through to urban folk and country - from the mean streets of Glasgow to the deep Delta. She is a well-travelled Scot with stories to tell, leaving home at 16 years of age with a blanket and a guitar yearning for the stage, a line from her self penned 'Post War Blues'. Still going strong some five decades on Ma Bell is the real deal a living testament to the saying ' you don't get older you just get better.

Debra Lee is a Tasman/Nelson-based singer, an eloquent interpreter of song whose signature spells sass, sophistication, sensitivity and soul. Debra has been performing throughout the folk and jazz scene and art festival platform since the nineties. She was a featured soloist in the 2002 Remembering Diana concert presented in the Christchurch Cathedral accompanied by the Late Ian Edwards, Tom Rainey, Vince Clarke and Jon Maxim Hooker. Debs will be performing a set of classic covers from Leonard Cohen, Bonnie Rait, Madeline Peyroux, Prince and others.

Providing the wind beneath the songbirds' wings are two highly respected, accomplished musicians featuring John Bevin on piano with Mike Kime on upright bass. This is going to be a spirited intimate night of world-class music to lift the spirits and soothe the soul.

Cash Door Sales if available.
