LEGO® Masters NZ contestant Emily Fryer is not just handy with plastic bricks – she's also Canterbury Museum's Conservator!
A full-sized, wearable dress Emily made from LEGO® and Flexo is displayed in the Museum's Level 3 Visitor Lounge.
Called 'Soaring over Canterbury', this wearable artwork presents the Canterbury landscape as seen by a pair of Tūī flying overhead.
Emily has recreated the patchwork of the plains, the winding braided rivers and the deep blue sea and included some notable landmarks like the statue of Robert Falcon Scott on Oxford Terrace, which Emily worked on in her capacity as a conservator.
'Soaring Over Canterbury' is displayed alongside a Museum object that inspired it: a dress which won the 1908 Canterbury Cricket Association Floral Fete's human poster competition. The dress incorporates pages from the Canterbury Times newspaper printed onto red and white satin.
Soaring Over Canterbury will be on display from 24 June.
