Where does clothes-mending fit into a society where a new tee-shirt can cost less than a coffee and scone? Fast Fashion is harming our planet so Let’s do our bit to keep clothing out of landfills.
In this workshop you will learn visible mending to extend the life of your clothes. Inspired by Sashiko, an ancient Japanese stitching method, this technique is very simple but still beautiful. We will make a Sashiko-inspired swatch to learn the technique.
If you like, bring along your jeans that need repair, and learn how best to mend how best to mend. No experience necessary. All resources provided.
About the facilitator, Marita Green: Marita began her passion for all things handmade in fibre, winning prizes in the Hokonui Fashion Awards (knitted section) in 2007 and 2008. Now a professional potter, Marita’s contemporary ceramics are sold in galleries throughout New Zealand. But she still loves textiles and is passionate about sharing her knowledge and skill to help soften our impact on the planet.
Marita lives in New Plymouth with her with her knife-maker husband Aaron, and two teenage children.
About the hosts: This workshop is hosted by The Upsewing Collective of Taranaki Timebank.
