Picton Maritime Festival Trust run a family-friendly community event. There is no charge to enter the festival and is always on Wellington Anniversary weekend in January. This attracts approximately up to 6000 over the two-day event. The festival opens on the Friday showcasing our very own talented performers along with national bands. Saturday the festival opens at 11am with lots of fun things to do e.g. Build a raft competition, Build a Dinghy competition, competing in our mussel floats. The Mussel Raft Races are a very fun activity that the Local St John and Fire Brigade volunteers participate in most years. This is also Free to enter. and is fabulous to watch too. Free Clinker boat rides and free face painting.

Children's entertainment is priority and we always source talented children's entertainers. The Wonky Donkey Man is coming this time. We also have a workshop for our children to participate in prior to the festival. This is also Free for our children to participate in. On Saturday they perform their new learnt skills to their families and friends on the big stage. The children learn so much from these workshops. Bouncy Castles are available for the children also. Treasurer Island is where the pre school children can make and do activities organised by a Pre School Teacher. A huge collection of Craft and Food stalls where you can select some very yummy food.

In the evening the stage is a buzz with bands giving the crowd a chance to dance the night away. By public demand we have once again secured "The Relatives" who had the crowd rocking this year. At 10.00 pm the Fireworks display is the culmination of a great family fun day.

The event has been running for 16 years and we are very grateful to be able to use the Picton Foreshore and town basin for this event.

The purpose is to raise funds and to create a fundraising platform for other non-profit organisations, thereby providing support for the benefit of needy and deserving groups, individuals, community organisations and projects within the Marlborough community, particularly with the emphasis on youth.

The Scholarship which was set up four years ago is an example of PMF giving back once again to our youth. For more information please contact B. Bowers pictonmf2005@gmail.com.
