The extraordinary story of the challenges for a young girl growing up in Taranaki, New Zealand, in the 1860s to 1880s, her sufferings at the hands of an abusive father, are interwoven with the unfortunate events surrounding the siege of Parihaka, and how these happenings were to impact on her life.
