We are pleased to announce our upcoming Parent Education Evening with mindfulness specialist Dr Nick Penney, PhD, on Thursday, 19 May at 7pm. Dr Penney will explore the science and practice of mindfulness in the pursuit of wellbeing.

This is a free event but we would like to invite attendees to make a donation to the Mental Health Foundation.

Dr Nick Penney BSc (Hons), PhD (Musculoskeletal Medicine)

After completing a PhD at the Centre of National Research on Disability and Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Queensland, Dr Nick Penney has become a leading proponent of pain management, along with mindfulness-based cognitive (MBCT) therapy.

Now Christchurch-based, Dr Penney has trained with one of the instigators of MBCT, Professor Mark Williams, focusing on overcoming the main psychosocial obstacles to managing pain and dealing with depression and anxiety.

After undertaking extensive training programmes in the United States and Britain, Dr Penney now educates adolescents and adults in overcoming life’s challenges through mindfulness, providing the skills to ‘flow and flourish’ at school and in everyday life. Today, Dr Penney is one of the most experienced Mindfulness in Schools Project educators internationally.

In recognition of his expertise, Dr Penney has been accredited by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) as a provider of continuing medical education for his ‘Mindfulness for Medical Practitioners’ programmes.

He aims to create a ‘mindful community’, utilising his mindfulness-based stress reduction programme to foster wellbeing, compassion and understanding of the neuroscience to build strength and resilience, particularly among teenagers.
