Sometimes it’s funny and sometimes it’s sh*t but the struggle is always real. Set in present day Aotearoa, this punchy little tale is of a Pākehā solo mum... raising teens... who are twins... and they’re Māori...easy right? With an ensemble of skilfully crafted characters, Pakaru draws you deep into an intimate contemporary drama about a small broken whānau who try to come together despite everything pushing them apart.
This gut-wrenching story shouts out at the reality that exists in between the ever-widening gap that many of our people have to live in. It is rooted in dark comedy, brutal tragedy, but is a hopeful nod to our enduring human spirit.
