This event is part of Conservation Week 2022 - www.conservationweek.org.nz (external site). Come along for an easy tramp in the Oroua Valley. Learn about the extensive trapping work that is undertaken by volunteers to help protect the endangered Whio or Whistling Blue Duck - our $10 note duck. We will visit Alice Nash Heritage Lodge and walk down to the beautiful Oroua River for lunch.. This is an opportunity to experience the lovely Oroua Valley forest and river, and also for potential volunteers to be introduced to the trapping programme. Your guides will be experienced trampers and trappers. You will need suitable footwear as it can be wet and muddy, a raincoat, warm clothing and be fit enough to walk up and down some hills. We will meet at 10am at the DOC car park which is at the end of Petersons Rd. Please sign up for this event by Thursday 15th September by emailing Janet - jwilson@inspire.net.nz .
