The year 1685 saw the births of three of the most eminent composers of their time, in J.S. Bach, G.F.
Handel and D. Scarlatti. Bach, the devout Lutheran who devoted most of his creative life to the glory
of God; Scarlatti, a one-time chapel master at the Vatican, and Handel, whose sacred music is said to
have "summed up the faith of the average Englishman." The programme is rounded out by music of Felix Mendelssohn, the man who rescued Bach's sacred music legacy from the library archives.
This celebration concert, presented by the University of Waikato Conservatorium voice and orchestral
students, showcases sacred music and oratorio movements from some of the gems of the repertoire.
Fun to perform; inspiring to listen to. Please join us for this special concert.
