The Opunake Beach Carnival is a volunteer-led community event. The generous support of carnival goers enables the event to continue each year in addition to funding Beach Projects.
On a Saturday soon after New Year's Day each year thousands gather under the Taranaki sun for the Opunake Beach Carnival which has been going strong since the early 1990s.
Run by the Opunake Beach Committee with fabulous support from local businesses, the carnival hosts a range of activities including the iconic Pageant competitions for 0-16-year-old boys and girls plus Miss Opunake, quick-fire raffles, craft and food stalls and the Big Dig - where children dig in the sand to find a winning popsicle stick.
Entry is free, but there is plenty of opportunities to spend a little with food and craft stalls and activities set up around the field.
The Opunake Beach Carnival is a volunteer-led event with proceeds going either back into the event or towards beach development projects. The generous support of carnival-goers benefits the local community considerably - we look forward to seeing you this summer!
