Aro is made up of husband-and-wife Charles (Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa, Ngāti Te Ata, Te Āti Awa) and Emily Looker (née Rice). This bilingual duo shares a passion for the power of language and music to tell stories that remind us of our cultural identities.

Aro has been performing nationwide in Aotearoa since 2017, playing festivals and a wide variety of venues around the country to share stories of our place with children and adults. They have featured on many national radio and TV shows.

Come along and join in with their special performance as part of Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki’s Matariki celebrations and mark the start of the July school holidays with song!
